Holistic Recovery: A Comprehensive Approach to Healing

Home / Glossary / Holistic Recovery

Holistic recovery is an approach to healing that recognizes the mind, body, and spirit as interconnected elements of the individual. It is different from traditional therapy in that it takes a more comprehensive view of the person’s mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. Rather than focusing on one aspect of a person’s life, holistic recovery looks at all aspects of a person’s life and how they interact with each other. It is designed to promote overall health by addressing all facets of an individual’s wellbeing.  This includes considering how one approaches lifestyle, work, relationships, family, and more and utilizing various types of therapy to help one live a full and healthy life.

What Does Holistic Recovery Involve?

Holistic recovery involves a variety of techniques and therapies that work together to support one’s mental, physical, and spiritual health. These techniques may include activities such as yoga, meditation, massage therapy, art therapy, aquatic therapy, nutritional counseling, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The goal of these activities is to help individuals gain insight into their thoughts, feelings and behaviors in order to make changes in their lives that will lead to improved overall wellbeing. Additionally, holistic recovery may also involve lifestyle changes such as getting adequate sleep, exercise or establishing healthy relationships with family members or friends.

Benefits Of Holistic Recovery

Holistic recovery offers many benefits for those struggling with mental health issues or substance abuse disorders. This type of treatment is often used as an adjunct to traditional treatment methods such as psychotherapy or medication management. By looking at the whole person rather than just one aspect of their life (such as alcohol or drug use), holistic recovery can provide additional insight into the underlying causes of addiction or mental illness and help people develop healthier coping skills for dealing with stressors in their lives. Additionally, holistic practices like yoga and meditation have been shown to reduce stress levels which can help reduce symptoms associated with mental illness or substance use disorder.
